QUESTION:
Modern sofa beds in the UK?
I've been looking everywhere for modern sofabeds, but they all seem quite dated! I've looked at all the usuals - Ikea, Argos, etc, but they are no good.
I'm moving in to a loft apartment and all our furniture is quite minimalist.... does anyone know where I can find a really nice, modern sofabed?! Price doesn't matter.
Thanks!

QUESTION:
How do I decorate a room with forest carpet- and still have it look modern?
"moving into a cond that has wall to wall forset green carpets in the living room and up the stairs. Our furniture and excecories are ALL black and modern, (Were not averse to buying a new neutral colored sofa etc-our are old anyway) What color s should we paint? And how can we decorate without totally changing our "style"
-
ANSWER:
You can either kill the green carpet or embrace it. At the very least I would break it up with large area rugs that will incorporate your black till you settle in.

or

Personally I would choose a gold faux paint http://www.housepaintingtutorials.com/ragging-on-the-gold-metallic-paint.html It will look rich against the black pieces.

QUESTION:
What colors should I decorate in?
I'm moving into a new apartment and I am buying all new furniture but, I am not sure what color sofa set to buy.
The walls are a cream color with white crown molding through out the apartment.
I am a neutral color girl, but I want to step out the box and do something new, modern and bold, so please help me ! and if you know of any sites I can check out to get some hot ideas from please let me know. Thank you!
-
ANSWER:
I would suggest that you stay neutral with your sofa and any large piece. (beige/darker cream) Hopefully you will love what you get and keep it for a long time. Throw pillows are a great way to be adventurous with color. You can go any direction when your base is cream and white. I would suggest that you pick up tones and colors from your planned art and other accessories.

QUESTION:
Sims 2 Downloads Site?
I play the Sims 2. Before I would always download from this one site. The site would give you sets of items. Like some bedroom furniture. They would give you a Hi Definition Tv, Black Bed, Shelf, and a sofa. I do not remember the name of this site. So do you know a site that gives you sets of items of one kind. Lets say the items (Hi Definition Tv, Black Bed, Shelf, and sofa) were all Modern. They were all shiny, black and white. So do you know a site like this?

QUESTION:
Where to go to buy a couch?
I am looking for a couch and can't seem to find one anywhere. I've been to all the furniture stores in Baltimore (Gardners, Ethan Allen, Shofers, Sofas Etc, Gavigans, etc) . Some criteria: I am short, so I don't want the depth to be too long, a firm seat (don't want to sink into the couch), attached pillow or solid back (pillows tend to lose their shape easily), and the back should be upright, (I don't want to lean back, I want to be able to sit up straight). I also like modern or very simple lines. Mostly all I see is massive furniture. Or one of two of the criteria. Haven't found it all together in one couch yet.
Can anyone recommend places to buy a couch in the Baltimore or DC area? I found a perfect one for 00. However, I don't want to spend that much. I would spend as much as 00.
Thanks in advance for any help.

QUESTION:
interior designing for a living room?
the couch is brown leather like this
http://www.everythingfurniture.com/off-leather-sofa-2.html
the other furniture is like a dark brown wood color and the walls are a neutral cream-like color. i wanted opinions on colors to decorate with..i was thinking burnt orange, dark reds, and tans possibly??
also, does anyone know any do-it-yourself, cheap ideas to create home decor for the living room also? i want it to be chic, modern, and classy. all help would be greatly appreciated:)
thanks!
-
ANSWER:
I absolutely love that couch! Since you are starting with a very neutral base, you can really go with just about any color you love. It seems that since you mentioned orange and red, you like a very warm feel. I totally agree! I am an interior designer and home remodel expert in West Virginia, and when I am helping a client make color choices, I always start them off by asking them to pick a large item they absolutely love. Area rugs are a great place to start. Pick one that you love everything about...the pattern, the tone, the colors, the way it makes you feel. Use it as your jumping off point for the rest of the items in your room.
Here are some rugs I absolutely love personally and I think would go great with that couch.
If you want the room to be warm and remind you of the colors of the sun:
http://www.houseofarearugs.com/Mystique-2018-Cayenne-p-135.html
or
http://www.houseofarearugs.com/Eclipse-68095-Multi-p-106.html
If you want the room to be very tailored, sleek and modern:
http://www.houseofarearugs.com/Allure-Silver-1906-p-43.html
or
http://www.houseofarearugs.com/Mystique-2010-Nude-p-132.html
Browse through tons of rugs until you find one that really speaks to you. The rug will give you a great color pallet and general feel for the style your other accessories should embody. If you end up picking a rug that is very neutral but you still would like to inject color into the room, find a patterned throw pillow that you love and use the colors found in it to accent your room.

QUESTION:
Dream meaning/ why am i dreaming like this again?
I have allot of confusing dreams, last night i had this one, anyone wanna explain it?
I was walking up a wide path, it was like one into an army base or a scouts camp, it had stones and wood chippings one it, I was walking up it with the man. There were wooden little modern looking shacks going up the path he was carrying a gun and I was like SHIT MAN, but he didn’t shoot me, I was aware he was going to shoot everyone in the building (which was the wooden shacks they were mostly connected) and they were all hiding from him. I went a different way from him, and when I got into the building people were dead because he had killed them already, even though as far as I was aware he had gone a different way from me and was still on the path. I went into a room, I was very calm in all this, in this room there were 4 other people I’d never met before, I don’t even know who the hell they were, anyway, I don’t know how we knew but we new he would come in the room any second so we started hiding, I hid in a corner between a wall and a side board, under a pile of purple, blue and white cushions, sofa ones. He came in and shot some people two I think, I don’t remember hearing the gun shots but I knew he did. I can’t remember how, I’m forgetting it already. Anyway, he went door wide open still (this room by the way was like a small studio room, it had a couple of sofas and behind them was a kitchen like arrangement, the door into the room came from outside which was on the left wall and the door the man came through was one leading into a corridor, so we all went out this door, I went in a separate direction to the other people. I walked along the corridor and there was another room, and that room had a big screen door leading to outside too. Outside the door there was a lady sitting at a patio table sort of thing. She was nothing special but seemed un-aware, I asked her if she knew about what was happening she said yes but she was so calm I felt safe like the man wouldn’t come to this part. So I went back in the room and it was a nice room, there was a vintage looking yellowy rug on the floor and brown and blue wallpaper, there was lots of wooden furniture and an old stereo it was an old room but so bright and colourful It was a really nice room, I guessed it was hers. One the floor sitting on the rug were two cats, one was a tabby brown and black, the other stripy, white ginger and brown and so fluffy. I picked him up and carried him outside before sitting down and the table with the lady and hugging and stroking the cat. It was such a nice cat. I was talking to the lady, I can’t remember what about but it was just a casual conversation. I stood up, and handed her the cat, I thought it was her cat and it was, but then it grabbed onto her arm digging its claws into her skin. She was trying to pull it off but it just kept clawing her and wouldn’t let go, it looked so painful, she had on a crinkly material shirt that was white and baby blue, and some dark denim jeans and was wearing lots of hippy looking necklaces, she looked a bit trampy and had scraggly dark brown hair, she wasn‘t wearing any make up and was quite skinny, she had a really thin face, pale and old looking, and the cat started getting caught in her necklaces and blood started coming through on her shirt from her arm where the cat had hold of her, she was still so calm trying to pull the cat off, ‘little fucker she is’ she said, ‘these cats are such little bastards’. Then as she was still trying to pull the cat off, my brother woke me up.

QUESTION:
Accessories to re design my living room?
Hello, I really want to update my living room. I live in an Army quarter so I'm limited on what I can do. I don't really want to paint cause I'll have to paint it back when I leave. In my living room at the moment I have a brown leather sofa with all oak furniture. The walls are magnolia (lovely eh lol) and the carpet is like a pinky plum colour (I know, even nicer eh) Anyway, I really wanted some nice accessories in a different colour other than brown (as I have loads of brown at the moment) I wanted something modern. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks
-
ANSWER:
With the mauve carpeting and the brown furniture, you may have the beginning of a good color scheme. Add a couple of pink pillows and one in a minty green in textured fabrics to the sofa. You can add a little interest to one wall ( as an accent wall ) by finding a fabric in pink, brown and cream, perhaps stripes or polka dots, and using it as wallpaper. To do this, cut the fabric to fit the length of the wall, ceiling to floor, soak it in liquid starch then squeeze out the excess and apply it to the wall as you would wallpaper. It doesn't harm the walls and just pulls down when you are ready to move or change it. In front of the sofa you can put an area rug in pink, green, brown, cream and mauve to tie the carpet in with the rest of the room.....just be sure if you use a big bold print on the walls to keep the area rug pattern more subtle. Some brass urns for plants, a basket or two for magazines or odds and ends and maybe a large green bowl for fruit or snacks on the coffee table and you will make the room less temporary looking and more like a real home.

QUESTION:
Most important home decor items?
I just bought a 130 yr old fieldstone farmhouse that I LOVE. I also got all new furniture when I moved in (new davenport sofa, chocolate brown armchairs, chocolate brown drapery, antique trunk for coffee table)
NOW my task is to accessorize. Which items do you feel make the most impact in a small space?
Living room is only about 15'x17', rectangular shape. 2 LARGE (48"x68") windows, a woodstove at one end, open to the stairs leading to 2nd floor. Has a small built in bookcase near the stove. I have 2 children ,ages 6 and 9 mos. there are the 2 armchairs, sofa, trunk, tv stand (I need a new one) and a small table bewteen the chairs.
I don't have ANY accessories in the room. I need something child and pet friendly. I like the modern farmhouse lues, look- modern clean lines, but in cottagey farmhousey colours- green, brown, beige- very understated and organic feeling. the sofa has storage built in under the seat. I just need accessory ideas! Any tips on decorating this room??
I should also add-
--armchairs are chocolate brown tub style chairs
--sofa is a davenport (folds into a guest bed) and is "Camel" coloured (beige) microsuede
--navy blue antique luggage trunk for toy storage/coffee table
--birch coloured Ikea cube end table in between the chairs
--planning on replacing the tv stand with something more sleek, yet organic and woody feeling (32" tv)
--an antique mirror frame on the wall (no mirror in it)
--an impressionist painting of a local nature reserve during Autumn on one wall (it's too small for the wall, I think!)
--grey carpet (being replaced this summer with soemthing that matches the honey coloured beams on the ceiling)
--woodstove is our heat source, and is black coloured cast iron with a fieldstone base under it
--HUGE windows (48"x68") with chocolate coloured floor length drapes- want to replace with bamboo shades for more texture)
--matte sage green walls
-pine ceiling beams
Tips to items online items would be awesome!!

try this its really fun too. go to the fabric store purchase choose a couple of colors, a dark, a light, and maybe a pattern in your colors. purchase about 2 yards of the dark and light and 1 of the pattern. also purchase a wreath made from hay. and a large bottle of fabric glue. take a pair of pinking shears and cut the fabric into 4x4 squares. take the fabric wrap it around a pencil, non sharpened, dip into the glue and poke through the wreath until entire wreath is covered. add a bow or some dried flowers. i have made several of these for family and friends and they love them . you can even make one for Christmas, Easter, Halloween.

QUESTION:
Am I creating a living room decorating catastrophe?
Imagine this: I have a small apartment living room with white walls (no painting allowed) and a gorgeous dark brown leather/suede sectional sofa that me and my husband fell in love with. Now, I would like to add different materials into the room...glass, metallic metal, and just a sort of modern/ relaxed feel into the room. I cannot fit more furniture except a coffee table long rectangular and 1 side table otherwise the room will look stuffed...right now its perfect and open. I don't want the room to be dark and depressing. I want to add colors that are comfy but rich. Like gray, purple, pink (only a lil), and greens. Some beige as well to add more softness into the room. I also want to buy lamps.
My questions are: What color should my coffee table be? I was thinking a dark wood coffee table with a glass counter top.... Should I buy modern looking metallic lamps or glass base lamps? or should I buy a dark wood looking lamp with a circular/modern shade. What textures should I include in the room? I was thinking some weird pillows...and What colors would brighten up the room since all the furniture is going to be dark brown? Should I get a rug? I have medium brown hardwood floors and i thought if i bought a small rug to put under the coffee table it would add a more comfy feel to the room. I was thinking of a light grey or beige. Is this ok?

ANSWER:
I definitely say dark wood table with white modern lamp shades. HomeGoods is the best store for home stuff you should check it out if you have one near. I would put big framed or canvas pictures up on the wall if your allowed to. Here are some ideas that hopefully help you out.
What about in gray:

QUESTION:
Need help, purchasing a Media Console and am unsure if it matches!?
Okay, I recently purchased a new TV (one of those Samsung LED TVs...awesome). As I watch it, I feel that the TV and I both deserve a new media center, as well as the rest of my living room. I'm always getting compliments on all of my furniture except for the TV stand. It's a behemoth and its absolutely hideous... too black/plain.
I was going for this:
http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=285934&CategoryID=35506
I'm just wondering if it would match my current furniture?! I have an oversized black leather sofa with bright green love seat, recliner, and chaise. My coffee table/end tables are a white stone with glass sitting on it (A bazillion pounds =/). The bases are like L shaped with balls type things. So I'm just wondering if this would go with all that. All the accents (like lamps and stuff) are modern/metal-y and either bright or black.
Thanks
By the way, I am going for both the base and the hutch.

QUESTION:
I neeed a room makeover!?
In my room all my furniture is brown wood, I have a hot pink sofa and one wall hot pink the rest are white.
I had it decorated like this about a year ago but, being a teenager, my taste has changed and I want a more mature look for it. My mum says I can't get it repainted with it only being a short time ago. So how can I have a simplistic, modern, calm room with a hint of hot pink and not spending too much money (and also keeping the furniture).
Any small things I can do???

QUESTION:
Help me find my way out of the Decor Maze?
2 years I noticed a decor shop. This small incident started me on a roller coaster ride that has ended up in major expense & confusion. I had loved the bold warmth & expressive colour of red & so bought items with textures. I had never been cushion or throws person until till then. With a large home of 80% orange brown slate (ugh who's idea was that?) felt the need to fill it in and warm up its empty echoing hallways and stair cases. Nearly 2 years later a host of colours & styles down the drain im still in confusion & no closer to my goal. In world of decor options I am like "kid in a candy shop" but ended up being a glutton who is sick of the sweets on offer. Leaving behind my beloved sunny yellows, antique creams & burples for a neutral oatmeal couch I tried various cushions and throws to brighten it even recovering arm chairs and dining chairs... but at the end I can never manage to pull it all together, something is always wrong. I've tried birch (love it) and lighter timbers but my partner who loves dark wood which I hate with a passion but because I seemed to flounder at the closing stage of every decor effort and it ends in trial, we end up with his "solid, practical, something" that can be passed from generation to generation....!!! blah blah blah
My fave arm chair (comfort factor) is oatmeal and I would love to cover that in something beautiful and not make another mistake. Tried: leopard skin throws, reds, burnt oranges, corals and teals, taupe's (yuk!!) peach and pecan colours, cream and roses and at present have been through more than ten decor styles.... I know it's insane...why do you think I'm here???!!. My daughter showed me how to do this!! I have a collection of modern vases ...some more rustic than others... they form a backdrop in my large window (that honestly begs for a large c& urns I love that fill my sunny bay window that begs a large window seat covered in some bright pattern and a host of cushions oh but the cushions always get me into trouble, how do designers throw all these differing ones together with ease? I have 6 children 25 thru to 7, a home ed family with a home that is a hub all day long and long into the evening. (this means I can't decorate like some glamour hotel)Right now? we look out over a sea of differing brown shades! My obvious problem is I can't decide on one colour. Have never had a plain sofa; always had florals.
I can't seem to digest stark contrastsbut am drawn to them. Mother owned her parents furniture so it was all antique.Roses bloomed on tapestry couches, cream and green original buffets, stained glass, big heavy dark bureaus and buffets in the living areas~but roses and cream were abundant even in the garden. Pinks, toile reds, sunny yellows, tapestry, thick cotton throws & original patchworks from her Mother... you get the picture! In trying to be modern and avoid a Granny's paradise I fall back on what I knew but now I can't find a niche anywhere. I have an old suite upstairs that has large cream loose cushions with pastel florals thrown in scatter cushions here and there. My partner found it too uncomfortable (he would love a dozen leather ugly recliners) this one, he said, had too many cushions and was uncomfortable (meaning it didn't recline) so it's now for sale and yes, you guessed it we have another lounge suite downstairs...I think perhaps sometimes, his boring plain brown tastes ( or the lack thereof) prevail. He feels rock solid and practical; passed down to another generation (if this generation can survive it) since the woodwork here is solid and enduring perhaps a good sander and a coat of paint... We have loads of windows with great views of nature out every window but no direct sunlight enters so we never have that warm ray of sunlight at any time of day...sigh! If someone can help me out of this dreary oatmeal and brown world and give me a solid direction please!

QUESTION:
What would be the focal point in my living room?
My living room is cut up really weird. I'm going to be buying new furniture soon and I really want to get it right this time. Here's some of the problems I'm having.
First off I'm not sure what my focal point should be. The main wall in my living room has a huge window taking up nearly the whole wall. The wall is 15 feet 6 inches wide , the window on that wall 11 ft 4 inches and nearly floor to ceiling. Right now we have our couch on that wall.
Then the other long wall is where you come into the living room. It has a open doorway that is five feet five inches wide so it's not much good for anything.
The other two walls are 13 feet 7 inches. One of these walls also has a big open doorway in it that also measures five feet five inches wide. So again this wall isn't great either.
So that only leaves me the one 13 feet wall that doesn't have a huge window or doorway taken out of it. Right now on that wall we have this really big ikea entertainment center. It's not an ugly 80's looking thing, it actually looks modern and cool. However we are planning on getting rid of it and getting a flat screen TV.
So I'm wondering how the heck to layout furniture in this room? I would like the focal point to be the awesome window, but if you don't use that area for the couch then you don't end up with many options. Then what I"m confused about is that I can't really arrange the furniture with the window as the focal point or then you probably won't be able to watchTV very well. So then does the TV become the focal point?
Right now the only piece of furniture we are planning on keeping is this big ikea armoire type thing that we have in a corner right now. Other than that we know we want to get a new sofa and probably a love seat and maybe some chairs. The thing is I just don't know how to lay it out at all.
I have no idea if my descriptions here made sense. Does anyone have any ideas of advice for me?
I should probably add that I don't only try to have things up against the walls, actually the opposite.
And the wall directly opposite the window wall would work for a TV because that wall has the big wide open doorway that is open into my entryway room and front door area.
That's part of the problem too. When you walk in my front door you look straight into the living room. I'm thinking of maybe putting two chairs with a small table between them there so there's not a huge piece of furniture just cutting the view of the room off.
It's just a really weird room.
Oh also wanted to add we are a young family. We have three young children and lots and lots of toys. Honestly the focal point right now is actually the kids' pretend kitchen!!! We need this living room to be really functional and it's tough with three small kids!
-
ANSWER:
Is the main use of the room watching TV? If it is, you want to have at least one couch facing the TV, maybe with the love seat or chars parallel to the couch. If you don't arrange the room with the TV in mind and you're always watching the TV, you'll just be uncomfortable.
The other thing you can do is a conversation area with a couch facing another couch or a set of chairs. You could also do two chairs angled towards each other with a small table as a conversation area. A rug under the edges of the all seats can anchor this area.
Unless the view is spectacular, I don't see any point in arranging furniture so you look out the window. I think you are taking focal point too seriously, not every room has to have one. I have a long narrow living room and despite getting many compliments on it, the room has no real focal point.
Furniture does not need to be up against the wall, it can float in the room as long as it is grouped well.

QUESTION:
Would you continue reading this if this was the beginning?
I'm working on a short story about a woman who is house shopping with her fiance. They go on a scheduled tour of the home but her fiance gets detained by a business call and she starts without him. When she enters the home, the interior doesn't match the exterior and she recognizes furniture and objects from her childhood home under debris, grime, and a multitude of cobwebs. Curiorisity gets the better of her and she moves to the back bedrooms, her old bedroom and her brothers old bedroom and a lot of things happen. XD. Not ready to share everything.
I just want to know if you like this opening or if it doesn't really go with the story. I'm having trouble getting started. Thank you.

I sat down hard on the lumpy couch across from my new therapist. My hands were shaking and one eye was twitching. I knew the man sitting in his cold leather chair, hiding behind his clipboard noticed and was silently taking down notes. I hated his scrutiny, my eyes narrowed when he looked through his modern cut glasses up at me and smoothed down his black tie against his royal blue shirt.
“Shelby, you can relax. I promise this is a judgment free zone. All you need to do is tell me what happened.” and he smiled at me.
His teeth looked like it had cost him a great deal of money to maintain. I remembered how good the ability to control my own level of personal hygiene felt and I had to force down a quiver of jealousy. The clock was ticking too loud on the wall in a mocking tone, highlighting my ever increasing nervousness. The fabric of the sofa too rough, the better to remind me of the comforts I had lost. They kept telling me it was just a dream. They are probably right.
“You have the notes.” I squeaked. I knew he had them, just like I knew they were underneath the sheets on his clipboard.
He spoke gently, leaning forward as he did.
“I’d like to hear it from you.”
I closed my eyes and sank back into the couch, I was tired of examining every little detail. Didn’t these people realize what they were doing to me? All I wanted to do was forget it and get my life back. He didn’t say anything, just waited for me to begin.

its not bad though
few things I noticed (constructively). you need to change up the sentence structure a bit, it is very redundant. Way too many sentences starting with the same word (I/My, They, His/He,- almost every sentence begins with one of those words). That is a sign of inexperienced writing- and a very basic form of writing. Not saying I'm a great writer, but being able to change up structure can keep people interested.
for example, this sentence, "The clock was ticking too loud on the wall in a mocking tone, highlighting my ever increasing nervousness" could be rewritten like this: "Ticking loudly on the wall the clock mocked my increasing nervousness." That actually isn't written too well, but it does give your sentences a different type of structure, try to play around with that a little bit- especially when you go through and edit. As a rule of thumb, I personally try to use the same word to start a sentence only once per paragraph, and never more than twice.
Also, like another person said- try to keep the reader guessing a bit more, instead of saying what is happening completely.
Maybe give the therapist a name.
Quality Writing takes practice (among other things), and you have good ideas and word choice. keep practicing, and keep working on it, not sure how old you are. but not bad for any age. Also, reading quality writing will help improve your writing as well, this is my biggest struggle when it comes to improving my writing since I lose focus if I read anything longer than a page.
